About Me
My Story
My name is Ryan Olson. My friends call me Rydog. Where do I come from? Music. Music is my passion, my everything.
I come from a musical family that embraced creativity and artistry first. From a young age, I began playing guitar, singing, and getting my hands on as many CDs and vinyl records as I could!
Today, that has translated into pursuing my dreams of becoming a musician. In 2019, I picked up the lap steel guitar, and today you can find me playing any guitar with a steel bar in my hand: dobro, lap steel, and pedal steel guitar.
Currently, I am a touring musician for Americana artist Caleb Montgomery and the Wild West Show based in Northern California. Be sure to check out his work and artistry. I am a radio show host for SteelRadio.org, a community non-profit radio station supported by listener financial donations, memberships and business underwriting, presenting the music of the heroes of steel guitar in Hawaiian, country and western, and steel guitar jazz. SteelRadio also presents the many ways steel guitar, dobro and slide guitar are being used today.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT MY WORK

-
What type of pedal steel guitar do you own?
-
I own two pedal steel guitars currently: a 1973 MSA Sidekick with three pedals and one knee lever and a 1972 Sho~Bud Pro II D-10 with eight pedals and four knee levers (1 vertical lever) that includes a custom Mullen pick-up. Both are near and dear to me and both have their own unique sound.

-
What other gear do you use to get your sound?
-
I currently own a Boss Katana MkII that I use to get the crispest and clearest sound I possibly can. Because it is robust, it is my amp of choice on the road. I use a Dekley Low-Boy volume pedal, a MXR Carbon Copy Analog Delay pedal, a compressor pedal, and the Peterson Strobostomp HD Tuner-- all of which keep me gig ready.
